We couldn’t be more excited to announce and invite you to MECCA’s 11th annual Object Afterlife Art Challenge! This is our favorite community arts event which constantly inspires us as we watch unwanted materials become incredible works of art. Object Afterlife connects scrap and fine art while encouraging the reuse and re-imagining of unwanted materials. This year, we challenged 104 artists to make inspiring, thought-provoking, and creative works of art out of a mystery bag of scrap materials.
Object Afterlife challenges artists to re-imagine unwanted materials and turn scrap into art. Participants are given a mystery material, MECCA Money, and two months to create. The resulting artworks exist in the space where artistic discovery and conservation meet, inspiring us all to think differently about the materials we may consider waste.
The Object Afterlife Artist Reception and Awards Ceremony is a celebration of the work of these inspiring artists. Join us on Friday, April 5, from 5:30 – 8:00 at OSLP Arts & Culture Program’s Lincoln Gallery located at 4th and Lincoln for this free artist reception and celebration.
Object Afterlife’s Best in Show will travel to the St. Vinnie’s Metamorphose Earth Day Celebration 2019 at the Lane County Fair Grounds on April 20. The Best in Show will be exhibited alongside BRING Recycling’s Product Design Challenge.
