<p>&nbsp;David Funk &amp;&nbsp;Jennifer Bell of bell + funk will talk about how the old ways of marketing are rapidly changing and how successful marketing works today, regardless of to whom you are marketing.&nbsp;</p> <div>&nbsp;</div> <!--break--> <div>David Funk</div> <div>David Funk is founder and former partner in Funk/Levis &amp; Associates, Inc., a design, marketing, and advertising agency based in Eugene, Oregon. He is also a co-founder of the Ulum Group, a statewide public relations firm. David has worked on national and international projects for a variety of Fortune 500 firms as well as on local projects for businesses of all kinds.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>David is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles and was the 2004 recipient of the University&rsquo;s Distinguished Alumnus Award. He is the lead author of &ldquo;Conscious Branding&rsquo;&rdquo; published in 2009 by Business Expert Press. David has won more than 100 graphic design awards. He lectures on marketing communications, creativity, design, design management, corporate identity and brand development at colleges and other venues.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>David has extensive experience serving as a board member on more than twenty-five boards, task forces and commissions in Oregon. He is currently a Commissioner with the Eugene Sustainability Commission and serves on several other boards. He was the Mid-Oregon Ad Club&rsquo;s Ad Person of the Year in 1988 and also received the Pacific Rivers Council Conservation Achievement Award that year. He received the National Wildlife Federation Conservation Achievement Award in 1989 for his leadership in river conservation in Oregon.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Jennifer Bell</div> <div>Jennifer worked in the San Francisco advertising industry for ten years, spending the first five at Goldberg Moser O&rsquo;Neill/San Francisco, formerly Chiat/Day. At GMO, she worked on Dell Computer, Dreyer&rsquo;s Ice Cream, Kia Motors, Rollerblade, and others. She later lead consumer research projects for clients Old Navy, California Pizza Kitchen, and Lane Bryant for Tattoo, a brand consultancy. She also served as strategic planner on the Visa account at AKQA, and on the Cisco Systems account at Kirshenbaum Bond &amp; Partners/West. Jennifer returned to her hometown of Eugene in 2004 and was most recently the Marketing Director at the Science Factory Children&rsquo;s Museum.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Jennifer is one of the first University of Oregon Journalism grads to pursue a career in advertising account planning, which was new in the U.S. at the time. Part anthropology, part psychology, and part sociology, it&rsquo;s the planner&rsquo;s job to help the agency and clients to understand the target audience, often using a mix of primary research (focus groups, one-on-ones), observation, and secondary research. &nbsp;This in-depth understanding leads to smarter, more effective communication for clients and is practiced in nearly every large agency in the country.
