Reducing Our Footprint

Anonymous's picture

The "Reducing Our Footprint" forum is a place to share our experiences and our tips on how to leave a smaller footprint, with every choice we make.

Here are several local commute options rolled into one:  Julie Daniel, Executive Director of BRING, shares her tips on how we can reduce our footprint while traveling across town to get to BRING's Planet Improvement Center. Daniel's advice: "It is easy to bike to BRING and takes 22 mins from downtown Eugene.  I bike 95% of the time.  The FREE EmX stops one block from us and runs every 10 mins.  Another easy option is to ride downtown or to a convenient stop and hop on the EmX with your bike.  It is 12 mins by EmX from downtown.  Also, the LCC bus stops directly outside our office.  And then there’s the time honored carpool!"

The best way to reduce our everyday footprint is to bike EVERYWHERE

Routing assistance

Julie is saving even more because the first two miles you drive has additional personal and planetary costs. A cold engine has double the pollution, 40% less mileage and it's the easiest way to combine exercise with travel.

BikeLane offers routing assistance for partnering businesses. Check these pages to see routes we developed:

We also have a calculator that counts your ride miles, CO2 savings, and money saved here: http://www.yousustain.com/footprint/treadlightly
