The Lane County Commissioners Trashbuster Awards were presented to recipients on November 10th in anticipation of National America Recycles Day (November 15). Selected were local community members, organizations and businesses that put their efforts toward reducing or preventing waste in our community.

Eugene Weekly readers selected NextStep Recycling for Best Environmentally Friendly Business in Eugene at the Eugene Weekly Best of Eugene Awards on October 24th, 2009. Lorraine Kerwood, Executive Director of NextStep Recycling and Laurie McVicar, NextStep ReUSE Store Manager, were honored to receive the award from Mayor Kitty Piercy, and Eugene's blogger, Jaculynn Peterson, from MyEugene.org.

Its that time of year again!  Each year, the Lane County Resource Recovery Advisory Committee seeks nominations for the Annual TrashBuster Awards to be presented on or near America Recycles Day.

Benton County ran into an issue that only recycling could solve. When one of their wooden bridges wasn't long enough they were denied of federal aid.So the county employees had to become resourceful. They picked up the pieces and began building the bridge out of recycled materials.
