I received this email from Chris the other day and I thought I would pass it along to all GreenLane members.
Hello, Katie:
You may have received information via Sarah Mazze about an important bill that will reduce Oregon’s contribution to global warming, while saving businesses and citizens money.
Some industry lobbyists are attacking this bill, and we need to shore up support from two legislators in the Eugene area: representatives Chris Edwards and Terry Beyer. I’m wondering if you could help mobilize the GreenLane network in support, as well as perhaps provide a letter from GreenLane that we could distribute to legislators. Things are moving fast – the bill will be voted on in the House of Representatives as soon as next Tuesday, May5.
House Bill 2186 would give the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission the authority to go through a rigorous rulemaking process to adopt common-sense strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from a variety of key sources including reducing the carbon content of Oregon’s transportation fuel, improving aerodynamics in trucks, reducing wasteful idling by trucks and ships, ensuring replacement tires don’t result in greater greenhouse gas emissions than original tires, preventing tampering with emission control systems, and encouraging substitutes for products containing high-potency greenhouse gases.
Here’s a link to our action alert (and see the alert language below my signature line): http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/587/t/8265/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=874
And it would be particularly useful for businesses to make calls to Rep. Edwards and Rep. Beyer. Their contact information is:
Terry Beyer: rep [dot] terrybeyer [at] state [dot] or [dot] us, 503-986-1412
Chris Edwards: rep [dot] chrisedwards [at] state [dot] or [dot] us, 503-986-1414
Thanks for any help you can provide! We’re down to the wire.
