NextStep Recycling receives award for Best Environmentally Friendly Business in Eugene

Eugene Weekly readers selected NextStep Recycling for Best Environmentally Friendly Business in Eugene at the Eugene Weekly Best of Eugene Awards on October 24th, 2009. Lorraine Kerwood, Executive Director of NextStep Recycling and Laurie McVicar, NextStep ReUSE Store Manager, were honored to receive the award from Mayor Kitty Piercy, and Eugene's blogger, Jaculynn Peterson, from MyEugene.org.

NextStep's volunteers and staff have refurbished over 18,000 computers and thousands of other electornic devices, placing them back into the wide world community. In the last three years, NextStep has recycled over 28,000 CRT monitors & 8,000 TVs and recycled over 6,000,000 lbs of old electronics.

NextStep offers job and social skills training to marginalized community members; protects our environment from toxic materials; and works to level the educational playing field by redistributing refurbished technology.
